This coin is a groat, or four penny piece, of Philip and Mary struck for Ireland in 1555.

These coins occur for four years from 1555 to 1558.

The shilling of this issue is Illustrated here.

This is coin is in Very Fine condition. It has a good full flan but it has some striking weakness in the legends and the busts, particularly Mary's, are weak.

These coins are often weakly struck and examples with strong portraits are scarce and more desireable than pieces with weak portraits even if well struck elswhere. Similarly it is more desireable to have the last digit of the date visible (as in this above example) than to have the other digits clear but the final digit uncertain.
